Harnessing Sustainability: Organic Pesticide from Onion Peels

September 19, 2023

Calling all cooking enthusiasts who use onions!

Don’t throw away those onion peels—let’s turn them into organic pesticide instead.

Creating organic pesticide from onion peels offers a natural, environmentally friendly, and sustainable alternative. It’s easy to make; simply place onion peel scraps in a container, add water, and let it sit for some time until it extracts.

This organic pesticide helps reduce the risk of soil and water pollution, minimizes exposure to pesticide residues in food, and maintains the balance of agricultural ecosystems. It does so by not disrupting beneficial organisms in the soil, such as microbes and earthworms, which contribute to soil fertility and garden quality.

This initiative supports Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 12, as Sekolah Pasca Sarjana, through BUAH The Living Lab, engages in organic waste management practices, including food remnants. By promoting the use of organic pesticides from onion peels, we contribute to sustainable agricultural practices and environmental stewardship.

Join us in exploring innovative ways to reduce waste and promote sustainability in our communities, fostering a greener and healthier future for all. (SNM)
