The Master’s Program in Sustainable Tourism at Universitas Padjadjaran conducted a Community Service Program (PKM) in Bandasari Village, Bandung Regency, aimed at strengthening local capacity to develop geotourism based on the village’s unique natural and cultural assets. The program included field observations, focus group discussions with the Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis), the Bandung Regency Tourism Office, international students, and local pottery artisans, as well as the exploration of cultural heritage such as Angklung Buhun, ethnoastronomy (the Palintangan traditional knowledge system), and traditional pottery craftsmanship. Through these activities, participants collaboratively developed destination storytelling, identified key tourism assets, and formulated community-based strategies for sustainable tourism management.
The program produced an initial mapping of Bandasari Village’s geotourism potential while strengthening collaboration among the university, local government, community organizations, and international partners in developing a sustainable tourism destination. It contributes to SDG 4 (Quality Education) by enhancing community knowledge and skills, SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by supporting local tourism-based economic development, SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) by preserving geological and cultural heritage, SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) through the sustainable use of local resources, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by fostering multi-stakeholder collaboration. As an additional outcome, the program also generated scientific publication materials that contribute to the advancement of research and knowledge in sustainable tourism.
