UNPAD Graduate School Advances Sustainable Tourism through Urban Forest Research Bandung, Indonesia

The Graduate School of Universitas Padjadjaran (SPS Unpad) is currently conducting a groundbreaking research project entitled “Development of Urban Forests as Sustainable Tourism Destinations in Bandung City.” This initiative is led by Dr. Evi Novianti, Head of the Master’s Program in Sustainable Tourism, together with a multidisciplinary team of SPS lecturers.

The research highlights the strategic role of urban forests in supporting several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In particular, it contributes to SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) by promoting food security through urban ecological services, SDG 13 (Climate Action) as urban forests function as significant carbon sinks to mitigate climate change, and SDG 15 (Life on Land) by preserving biodiversity within urban environments. Moreover, the project also underlines the importance of SDG 1 (No Poverty) and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), as sustainable tourism development around urban forests can create new employment opportunities and strengthen the local economy.

By combining expertise from diverse disciplines, this research not only enriches the academic landscape but also provides practical solutions for urban sustainability in Bandung. SPS Unpad remains committed to driving innovation in sustainable tourism while fostering inclusive growth and environmental stewardship for future generations.
