Researchers from the Graduate School, Universitas Padjadjaran, Dr. Evi Novianti, have conducted a compelling ethnographic communication study exploring interethnic marriages between Sundanese and Minangkabau families. Through descriptive-qualitative methodologies, with in-depth interviews at its core, the study vividly captures how these families navigate communication across cultural lines. Findings reveal that adaptive and inclusive communication patterns play a pivotal role in bridging differences. This is achieved through mutual understanding, awareness of diversity, and acculturated roles, fostering conflict resolution, openness, and collective harmony. The research carries significant relevance for advancing multiple Sustainable Development Goals. It reinforces SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) by modeling peaceful interethnic relations and societal justice through effective communication. It supports SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) by spotlighting inclusive intercultural dialogue, and SDG 4 (Quality Education) through raising awareness about diversity and encouraging intercultural learning. As a cultural communication model, it offers both academic enrichment and practical frameworks for strengthening social cohesion within Indonesia’s pluralistic communities.
