Strengthening the Role of Engineers and Sustainable Human Resources: Unpad, Graduate School’s Students Discuss a Green Future

Unpad, Graduate School has successfully held a Public Lecture titled “The Role of Engineer for Sustainability” and “Sustainable Human Resource Management and Leadership” on Tuesday, February 25, 2025. Ninety Graduate School students from various study programs attended the event, both offline in the Hybrid Room on the 2nd Floor of the Unpad Graduate School Building and online via Zoom. The participants’ enthusiasm was evident in the diverse questions and productive discussions during the Q&A session.

In the first session, Prof. Dr. Rina Indiastuti, SE., M.SIE, delivered a presentation on “Sustainable Human Resource Management and Leadership.” She emphasized that human resources are the primary driver of organizational sustainability. Through Sustainable HRM practices, companies or institutions are encouraged to achieve a balance between financial performance, employee well-being, and environmental sustainability. Prof. Rina emphasized the importance of inspiring leadership, building a culture of innovation, and strengthening cross-sector collaboration. This enables organizations to more effectively address global challenges such as climate change, social inequality, and technological disruption.

Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Ir. Iman Hernaman, M.Si., presented the topic “The Role of Engineers for Sustainability.” He emphasized that the engineering profession has responsibilities that extend beyond simply developing technology and building infrastructure. Prof. Iman explained that modern engineers need to prioritize a sustainability approach that encompasses energy efficiency, the use of environmentally friendly materials, and proper waste management. This way, the industries they design will not only be profit-oriented but also incorporate social and environmental responsibility.

This event provided a platform for participants to broaden their interdisciplinary perspectives and raise awareness of the importance of sustainable innovation. The discussion between the two speakers and the students emphasized the need for a collaborative approach, both technically and managerially, to address the demands of current and future development. Through this public lecture, the Unpad Graduate School hopes to equip students with relevant knowledge and skills, while also encouraging them to contribute more to realizing equitable, inclusive, and environmentally sound development.; Dokumentasi: https://pasca.unpad.ac.id/meneguhkan-peran-insinyur-dan-sdm-berkelanjutan-mahasiswa-pascasarjana-unpad-bahas-masa-depan-hijau/
