BUAH The Living Lab and the Center for Environment and Sustainability Science (CESS) at Universitas Padjadjaran recently hosted a groundbreaking event titled “Strengthening Knowledge on Organic Waste Management into Fertilizer for Urban Agriculture.” This initiative aimed to educate and empower local farmers and food producers on sustainable practices.
The event focused on transforming organic waste into valuable compost for urban farming, promoting environmentally-friendly agricultural methods. By equipping participants with practical knowledge and skills in organic waste management, the program supports sustainable urban agriculture and contributes significantly to reducing food insecurity.
This initiative aligns closely with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
SDG 2: Zero Hunger – By improving waste management and promoting urban agriculture, the event helps enhance food production and reduce hunger in urban areas.
SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production – The emphasis on recycling organic waste supports sustainable production practices and reduces environmental impact.
SDG 15: Life on Land – Encouraging sustainable farming practices helps preserve land resources and promotes ecological balance.
Through these efforts, BUAH The Living Lab and CESS are not only advancing local food security but also fostering a culture of sustainability within the urban agricultural sector. The successful integration of waste management techniques into farming practices represents a significant step towards a more sustainable future.
