Sekolah Pascasarjana Universitas Padjadjaran (SPs UNPAD) is taking a proactive approach to empower women and promote sustainable development by encouraging female applicants to explore underrepresented fields. This initiative is part of a broader strategy that includes university outreach, collaborations with other institutions, and partnerships with community groups, government bodies, and NGOs.
One of the key projects supporting this mission is our collaboration with the Desa Panundaaan community. Over the past two years, this partnership has focused on enhancing the skills and opportunities available to local women through targeted training and sustainable tourism education.
Year One Highlights: Social Media Training and Product Packaging
In the first year of our engagement with Desa Panundaaan, we organized training sessions to help local women, particularly members of the PKK (Family Welfare Program), effectively use social media and improve product packaging. These workshops aimed to equip women with essential skills to market their products more effectively and reach a broader audience.
Year Two Achievements: Establishing POKDARWIS as Champion Leader
Building on the successes of the first year, our efforts in the second year have concentrated on developing POKDARWIS (Tourism Awareness Groups) as a Champion Leader in the village. This phase includes advanced training in sustainable tourism practices and leadership, aimed at fostering local champions who can drive and sustain community-based tourism initiatives.
Supporting SDGs through Empowerment and Collaboration
These initiatives align with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as outlined by Times Higher Education (THE) impact indicators:
SDG 5: Gender Equality – By encouraging women to pursue careers in underrepresented fields and providing them with the necessary skills, SPs UNPAD supports gender equality and empowers women to achieve their full potential.
SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth – Training in social media and product packaging not only improves employment opportunities but also stimulates local economic growth through enhanced tourism and product visibility.
SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals – Collaborating with various stakeholders, including universities, community groups, and NGOs, exemplifies the power of partnerships in achieving sustainable development goals.
SPs UNPAD is committed to continuing these efforts and making a positive impact through education and community collaboration. For more information about our initiatives and how we are working towards these goals, please visit our Sustainability Guidelines.
