Universitas Padjadjaran (UNPAD) has joined forces with Buana Kassiti Group to advance the development of a healthy housing community. This new partnership was formalized through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at Buana Cicalengka Raya Housing Complex in Cicalengka, Bandung Regency, on March 22 2021. The MoU was signed by UNPAD Rector Prof. Rina Indiastuti and Joko Suranto, CEO of Buana Kassiti Group, in the presence of West Java Deputy Governor Uu Ruzhanul Ulum, elected Bandung Regent Dadang Supriatna, UNPAD leadership, and representatives from various banks.
The collaboration aims to transform Buana Cicalengka Raya into a model of sustainable and healthy living. This residential area will not only provide housing for UNPAD staff but also serves as a prime example of environmentally conscious development. Prof. Indiastuti emphasized that this initiative aligns with both organizations’ commitment to environmental preservation, reflecting shared values in fostering sustainable practices.
Key initiatives of the partnership include the development of an urban forest within the residential area. This project was symbolically launched with a tree-planting ceremony, attended by Prof. Indiastuti, Deputy Governor Uu Ruzhanul Ulum, the elected Bandung Regent, CEO Joko Suranto, and other notable figures. This initiative supports SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities by enhancing green spaces and promoting urban forestry.
Another significant aspect of the collaboration is the construction of a health clinic within Buana Cicalengka Raya. UNPAD has been entrusted with facilitating the establishment of this clinic, which aims to improve healthcare access for residents and supports SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being.
Additionally, the partnership includes the development of co-working spaces and the management of forested areas within the residential complex. This effort was formalized through a separate MoU signed by Prof. Dr. med. Setiawan, Dean of the Graduate School, and PT. Pirantec Rekabina Director Joko Suranto. The creation of these co-working spaces supports SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, promoting flexible work environments and economic growth.
Prof. Indiastuti highlighted the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining a healthy environment, stating that creating a sustainable living area is a shared obligation beyond the residents alone. This reflects a commitment to SDG 15: Life on Land, focusing on preserving and restoring terrestrial ecosystems and promoting sustainable land use.
This collaboration between UNPAD and Buana Kassiti Group represents a significant step towards creating healthier and more sustainable living environments. By aligning with multiple SDGs, this partnership demonstrates a strong commitment to environmental stewardship and community well-being. For more information on this initiative, visit UNPAD News.
