SPs UNPAD Sets Ambitious Target for Carbon Neutrality in Line with Global Climate Action

The Graduate School of Universitas Padjadjaran (SPs UNPAD) has set a clear and ambitious goal to achieve carbon neutrality within the next decade, aligning its efforts with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. This initiative forms part of the institution’s wider commitment to sustainability, as outlined in Chapter 2 of the SPs UNPAD Sustainability Guidelines, which focus on combating climate change and reducing environmental impacts.

By setting a target for carbon neutrality, SPs UNPAD aims to drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions across its campus operations and academic activities. This commitment directly supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 13, which emphasizes urgent action to combat climate change and mitigate its effects. The institution is not only addressing its carbon footprint but also setting an example for other educational institutions in Indonesia and beyond.

Achieving carbon neutrality will involve implementing a range of strategies, including enhancing energy efficiency, increasing the use of renewable energy, and promoting sustainable transportation options. SPs UNPAD will also explore carbon offset initiatives and integrate more green technologies into its campus infrastructure to meet its ambitious targets.

This focus on reducing emissions also aligns with the criteria established by the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings, which assess universities’ progress toward the SDGs. Through these actions, SPs UNPAD is demonstrating leadership in environmental sustainability, fostering a culture of climate responsibility within its academic community, and contributing to Indonesia’s overall climate goals.
