In line with its commitment to sustainable development and environmental stewardship, the Graduate School of Universitas Padjadjaran (SPs UNPAD) has implemented comprehensive biodiversity conservation strategies through the Biodiversity Management Plan (BMP). This plan ensures that local biodiversity is a key consideration in every planning and development process undertaken by the institution and its partners.

In November 2023, SPs UNPAD conducted an extensive biodiversity monitoring activity at the Patra Seroja Forest, Refinery Unit II Dumai, in collaboration with PT. Kilang Pertamina Internasional. This was followed by another BMP monitoring session in December 2023, which included drone surveying at Refinery Unit VII Kasim to map and assess the area’s biodiversity. These initiatives highlight SPs UNPAD’s proactive approach to preserving local ecosystems while fostering sustainable industrial practices.

These biodiversity monitoring efforts are in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 15, which focuses on protecting, restoring, and promoting the sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems. Through these activities, SPs UNPAD actively contributes to the conservation of natural habitats, the prevention of biodiversity loss, and the sustainable management of forested areas.

Furthermore, these initiatives support SDG 13, which emphasizes urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts. By integrating advanced technologies such as drone surveying in biodiversity monitoring, SPs UNPAD not only protects local ecosystems but also promotes innovative methods that contribute to climate resilience and sustainable land management.

This work also aligns with the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings, which measure universities’ contributions to the SDGs. By prioritizing biodiversity in its planning and development processes, SPs UNPAD showcases its leadership in creating sustainable, environmentally responsible projects that benefit both the academic community and broader society.
