Graduate Program in Environmental Science Offers Comprehensive Courses on Environmental Science and Sustainability

The Master’s Program in Environmental Science at Universitas Padjadjaran (UNPAD) proudly offers a diverse range of courses that focus on environmental science and sustainability. Among these courses is “Watershed Management,” designed to equip students with essential skills and knowledge for effective environmental management.

Learning Outcomes
The course aims to develop both generic and specific skills, with a comprehensive understanding of watershed management in relation to sustainable development. Students will:

Generic Skills: Develop scientific fields through interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary, or transdisciplinary approaches; manage and maintain networks within the research community; and adapt, innovate, and contribute to environmental science in social contexts, acting as global citizens with a global perspective.
Specific Skills: Plan, direct, and implement environmental protection and management; develop natural environmental systems and understand their relationships with humans; evaluate human influences on environmental systems; and formulate and make decisions in environmental management with a multidimensional and integrative perspective.

Course Content
The “Watershed Management” course covers a broad scope, including:

Understanding and managing watersheds and their link to sustainable development.
Analyzing the watershed ecosystem and its components.
Examining the characteristics and spatial interrelationships of the biophysical and socioeconomic aspects of a watershed.
Identifying and conceptualizing watershed problems.
Addressing technical and institutional issues in watershed management.
Applying ecosystem approaches and understanding environmental carrying capacity.
Implementing economic principles of natural resources in watershed management.
Engaging community participation in watershed management.
Managing vegetation to control erosion and sedimentation.
Planning and evaluating watershed management programs.

Supporting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
This course supports several SDGs, particularly:

SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation — By focusing on the management of water regimes and improving water quality and quantity.
SDG 13: Climate Action — Through evaluating human impacts on environmental systems and developing sustainable management practices.
SDG 15: Life on Land — By maintaining the integrity and function of ecosystems and promoting biodiversity.
The course also contributes to SDG 4: Quality Education, providing high-quality education and training in environmental science that equips students with the skills needed to address global environmental challenges.

Enriching Knowledge and Building Capacity
The Master’s Program in Environmental Science at UNPAD is committed to developing future leaders in environmental science.
