Empowering Local Communities through Sustainable Tourism Initiatives: A Step Towards SDG Achievement

In a remarkable effort to foster sustainable local development, the Master’s Program in Sustainable Tourism at the Graduate School of Universitas Padjadjaran has embarked on a significant community outreach project in Panundaan Village, Ciwidey, Bandung Regency. This initiative exemplifies our commitment to promoting sustainable business practices and aligns closely with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities).

Through a series of targeted interventions, including mentorship programs, grants, training workshops, and access to university facilities, the project aims to support the financial and social sustainability of local businesses. The collaboration extends to identifying tourism potential in Panundaan Village, with a focus on developing a community-based tourism organization (POKDARWIS). This initiative is designed to empower local champions, providing them with the skills and resources needed to lead and sustain tourism development in their community.

This project not only aims to boost the local economy but also to foster a sense of community ownership and leadership in tourism development. By creating a POKDARWIS as a Champion Leader, the program underscores its commitment to building local capacity and ensuring long-term sustainability.

The initiative reflects our dedication to the principles outlined in the SDGs, particularly in promoting sustainable economic growth and community development. Through these efforts, the Graduate School of Universitas Padjadjaran contributes to creating vibrant, resilient communities that are prepared to thrive in a sustainable future.

Stay tuned for more updates on how our collaborative efforts are making a tangible impact on local communities and advancing the global sustainability agenda.
