In alignment with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 13, which emphasizes urgent action to combat climate change, the Universitas Padjadjaran Graduate School (SPs UNPAD) has developed and implemented comprehensive sustainability guidelines. These guidelines, detailed in Chapter 2, encompass various strategies and policies aimed at reducing environmental impact and steering the campus towards a greener, more sustainable future.
One of the key initiatives taken by SPs UNPAD is setting a target for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. This target reflects the Graduate School’s commitment to climate action and aligns with the sustainability guidelines outlined in Chapter 2. “We recognize that taking action against climate change is an urgent need, and by establishing clear goals for GHG reduction, we are taking significant steps towards supporting SDG 13,” stated the school’s leadership.
Furthermore, SPs UNPAD has implemented a sustainable investment policy that directs funds towards projects that contribute to reducing environmental impact and mitigating climate change. This policy is a vital component of the Chapter 2 guidelines, ensuring that investments are made responsibly and support the broader objectives of SDG 13
SPs UNPAD also actively supports the formation and operation of student organizations (UKMs) focused on environmental issues, green initiatives, conservation, and climate change. These UKMs play a crucial role in promoting sustainability on campus and align with the goals of Chapter 2 by engaging students directly in sustainability efforts.
Another significant commitment by SPs UNPAD is the establishment of a specific timeline for achieving carbon neutrality in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. This target underscores the Graduate School’s dedication to significantly reducing emissions and is a clear demonstration of its commitment to the sustainability principles laid out in Chapter 2.
In addition, the Graduate School has implemented various policies addressing climate change, such as reducing carbon emissions, optimizing energy use, and providing open green spaces. These actions are in line with Chapter 2 of the sustainability guidelines, which focus on minimizing the campus’s environmental footprint and supporting SDG 13.
SPs UNPAD has also launched innovative programs to address energy challenges and climate change. These programs reflect the school’s commitment to sustainability, as detailed in Chapter 2, and contribute to achieving SDG 13 by promoting technological and managerial solutions to reduce environmental impact.
A zero-emission vehicle policy has also been introduced on campus as part of SPs UNPAD’s sustainability strategy. This policy, highlighted in Chapter 2, supports SDG 13 by reducing transportation-related emissions and encouraging the use of eco-friendly technology.
Moreover, SPs UNPAD provides environmental training for both students and staff, a key component of the sustainability guidelines in Chapter 2. These training sessions are essential in raising awareness and enhancing skills related to climate change and sustainability across the campus community.
Lastly, SPs UNPAD adheres to rigorous carbon emission measurement standards, ensuring transparency and accuracy in reporting. The Graduate School’s commitment to following the Greenhouse Gas Protocol for Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, as outlined in Chapter 2, is integral to its climate action strategy and supports the global effort to combat climate change as part of SDG 13.
Through these comprehensive efforts, SPs UNPAD is demonstrating leadership in sustainability and climate action, making significant strides towards creating a sustainable campus that aligns with the principles and objectives of SDG 13. (SNM)
