Graduate School UNPAD Supports SDG 11 Through Various Public Facilities

The Graduate School at Universitas Padjadjaran (UNPAD) is making significant contributions towards Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 11—Sustainable Cities and Communities—through its commitment to providing various public facilities that enhance community engagement and environmental sustainability.

One of the key initiatives is the BUAH The Living Lab project, a collaboration between UNPAD, the Center for Environment and Sustainability Science (CESS), and INSUAH (Integrated Study of Urban Agriculture Heritage). This project transforms previously unused land into productive urban agriculture spaces, promoting greener, more sustainable cities. BUAH The Living Lab also serves as a dynamic space for research and community engagement, highlighting the importance of preserving urban farming heritage in Bandung.

In addition to this, the Graduate School UNPAD provides public access to its library, offering the community an opportunity to explore a vast collection of publications, books, and academic resources. This initiative supports knowledge development and learning for the broader public while strengthening the connection between the university and the community. By making its library accessible, the Graduate School enhances literacy and information access within society.

Moreover, the Graduate School demonstrates its commitment to public access to art and cultural heritage through its involvement in BUAH The Living Lab. Although focused on urban farming, the lab also functions as a space for cultural engagement, similar to a museum or gallery. This allows the public to learn about and interact with the urban agricultural heritage that is an integral part of Bandung’s history.

The Graduate School UNPAD also opens up green spaces to the public through the BUAH The Living Lab initiative. This project has revitalized previously underutilized urban areas, creating vibrant green spaces that offer educational and interactive opportunities for the community. These green spaces not only improve the urban environment of Bandung but also promote healthier, more sustainable living practices.

Additionally, the Graduate School supports SDG 11 through the Geopark initiative in Ciletuh, led by Dr. Evi Novianti, S.Sos., M.Si., which provides public access to natural heritage sites. These various facilities and initiatives underscore the Graduate School’s dedication to fostering sustainable urban environments and enhancing community well-being. (SNM)
