Promoting Sustainable Environmental Management Through Urban Farming: Strengthening Organic Waste Management Knowledge for Urban Agriculture

The Center of Excellence for Environment and Sustainability Studies (CESS) at Universitas Padjadjajaran, in collaboration with Bandung Urban Agriculture Heritage (BUAH), hosted an enlightening event on sustainable environmental management. Themed “Strengthening Knowledge of Organic Waste Management into Fertilizer for Urban Farming,” this event aimed to educate and empower local farmers and food producers.

The event, part of BUAH’s ongoing commitment to sustainable urban agriculture, aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 2 (Zero Hunger). By providing a platform for local farmers and food producers to connect and share knowledge through workshops and seminars, BUAH and CESS foster an environment of learning and collaboration essential for sustainable food production.

Participants were introduced to practical techniques for transforming organic waste into valuable fertilizers, a critical aspect of sustainable urban farming. This not only enhances soil fertility but also reduces waste, contributing to a circular economy.

The event underscored the importance of integrating traditional knowledge with modern agricultural practices to create resilient urban farming systems. Through such initiatives, BUAH and CESS continue to promote sustainable agriculture, ensuring food security and environmental sustainability for urban communities.
