“The postgraduate program at Padjadjaran University officially started with the opening ceremony of lectures on July 21, 1979, by Prof. Dr, R.A. Tisnaamidjaja, Director General of Higher Education Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia. When it started, the 1979/1980 academic year, this program only had one study program, it was the master’s Study Program (S2) in Plant Science (Agronomy). Then it developed into a Postgraduate Faculty which held three educational programs, which were the Masters Education Program (S2), Doctoral Education Program (S3), and Specialist Education Program I (Sp I), confirmed through the Presidential Decree of the Republic of Indonesia No. 47 of 1982 dated September 7, 1982 regarding the organizational structure of Padjadjaran University, and the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia No. 133/0/1983 concerning the organization and work procedures of the University of Padjadjaran. Starting in 1989, the status of the Postgraduate Faculty was changed to the Postgraduate Program, based on Law no. 2/1989 and PP No. 30/1990 and its implementing regulations, namely the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture No. 0311/0/1991 and No. 0436/0/1992 (Statute of Padjadjaran University), No. 036/U/1993 (Degree and Designation of PT Graduates), and No. 056/U/1994 (Guidelines for Preparation of Higher Education Curriculum and Assessment of Student Learning Outcomes).

In the initial period of implementation, the management of the Master Program is carried out by the faculty of the field or branch of science concerned. The management is coordinated by the Management Team at the University level which also manages the Doctoral Program. With the existence of the Postgraduate Faculty, the management of the Masters and Doctoral Programs is carried out by the Faculty. With the issuance of the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia No.0311/0/1991, the management of the Masters and Doctoral Programs is led by the Director of the Postgraduate Program who is responsible to the Chancellor. Based on Government Regulation No. 60 of 1999 and through the Decree of the Chancellor of the University of Padjadjaran, Number 1307/H6.1/KEP/HK/2008, officially starting February 2009, only multidisciplinary study programs are coordinated by the Postgraduate Program, while mono/oligo-disciplinary postgraduate study programs are coordinated by the same or appropriate faculty. In 2013 according to Regulations of The Minister of Education and Culture number 46 of 2013 concerning Unpad’s organization and work (OTK), Postgraduate is an academic implementing element that carries out some of the duties and functions of UNPAD which is under and responsible to the Chancellor. Postgraduates have the task of carrying out master’s program education and doctoral programs for the interdisciplinary field of science and carrying out quality assurance for master’s programs and doctoral programs organized by the faculty. In its current development with the issuance of Government Regulation number 80 of 2014, dated October 17, 2014, concerning Padjadjaran University becoming a PTN BH (Legal Entity), followed by Government Regulation Number 51 of 2015 concerning the Statute of Padjadjaran University, and finally Rector’s Regulation Number 70 of 2015 concerning Unpad Management Organization and Management, Postgraduate changed to Postgraduate School. The school is an academic implementing element at the faculty level which is in charge of organizing and/or coordinating multidisciplinary postgraduate programs.
