Since the 2016/2017 Academic Year, Unpad has implemented a By Research doctoral education process with a study load of at least 44 credits, consisting of:

Doctoral Qualification Competency, minimum 14 credits, consisting of:

  • (i) Basic research skills (min 7 credits), (ii) Career development skills (min 2 credits), and (iii) Dissemination skills (min 5 credits)
  • Research Proposal Seminar (SUR): 5 credits
  • Seminar on Research Results (SHR): 5 credits
  • Dissertation Manuscript Study (PND): 6 credits
  • International Journal Scientific Article: 9 credits
  • Doctoral Promotion Examination (SPD), 5 credits

 

Fulfillment of the credits for the ‘Doctoral Qualification Competency’ component is carried out in a tailor-made manner so as not to hinder research activities. To strengthen graduate qualifications through real international academic exposure, Doctor of Environmental Sciences Study Program established the “Joint PhD” program with the Faculty of Behavioral, Management and Social Sciences (BMS), University of Twente, The Netherlands.

Study length: 7 years (14 semesters)

 

Curriculum structure:

1 credit equivalent to 36 hours/semester or 3 hours/week. One hour face-to-face in class and 2 hours of academic activity outside class (including face-to-face and independent assignments).

In the ECTS system (The European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System), 44 credits are equivalent to 64 ECTS. For students whose background is not environmental science, supervisors can recommend them to sit-in in the Masters Program to obtain the required knowledge enrichment.
