[GradSchool Unpad ] Prof.Dr.Ir.H  Roni Kastaman, MSIE is one of the Professors of Universitas Padjadjaran in the field of Agricultural Industrial Technology. On Wednesday 1 December 2021, he attended the reboan event which was held by the Graduate School with the theme “Appropriate Technology in Filling the Space for Technology Patents for Society”

According to Prof.Dr.Ir.H Roni Kastaman, MSIE 2021, Patent War Innovation is a hot issue.

America and China have been fighting for supremacy in Global Scale Innovation Patents in the last 17 years (since 2000). 9 out of 10 categories of Chinese patent applications outperformed it. 4 World Business Giants from China (BATH : Baidu, Alibaba, Tencent and Huawei)

According to Permendes 23 No. 2017 Chapter I Article 1. Prof. Roni Kastaman suggests that appropriate technology can be characterized as:

• According to the needs of society
• Answering community problems
• Does not damage the environment
• can be used & maintained easily by the community
• generate added value (environmental economics)
• There is Innovation and Protection of Intellectual Property Rights

The position of Appropriate Technology

If the main reference is a Technology Patent that is included in 10 categories, the effort to do so is very heavy, requires a lot of money (high-cost economy), Mastery takes longer, and the barriers to entry are heavy.
